The current Openpath Jira and Confluence instances will be migrated to the MSI On-Premise solution from August 9th-11th, the current platform will be set to read-only and all future usage will be in the Avigilon Instance. Please ensure access to MSI Jira & MSI Confluence, both are accessible through OKTA. For additional information and details please refer to the Atlassian migration page

How do I create a Video Reader / Video Intercom Reader entry?

Information: Recommended upload speeds for 1 Video Reader Pro or Video Intercom Reader Pro.

(Double for each added Video Reader, and Video Intercom reader)

Quality:

Low: 1Mb

Medium: 2Mb

High: 8Mb

We recommend more for the Video Intercom Reader Pro because Live streaming and Video Calls require more bandwidth since they can be used simultaneously.

This article explains how to create an Avigilon Alta entry tied to an Avigilon Alta Video Reader (Video Reader Pro and Video Intercom Reader Pro). While Avigilon Alta Video Readers have some ACU functionality, you must use a remote ACU to control the locking hardware.

Entry configured with Video Reader and remote ACU

Prerequisites

To create a Video Reader entry:

  1. Go to https://control.openpath.com/login and log in. To access the European Alta Access, please go to https://control.eu.openpath.com/login.

  2. Go to Sites > Entries.

  3. Click the plus(+) sign in the top right corner to Add an Entry.

Basic Info

  • Enter a name and select the Zone (we recommend adding an identifier to the name e.g. “Example name - Video Reader”).

  • From the Cloud Gateway Device Type dropdown, select Openpath.

  • From the Controller dropdown, select the Video reader.

Entry Behavior

Entry Behavior is where you set the Default State for the entry. See What are Entry States? You can also assign an Entry Schedule, which is optional. See How do I assign Schedules to Entries?

Note: Video Reader relays are not rated for locking hardware, so all hardware associated with the Video Reader, i.e. Contact, Entry/Exit, REX, must use the remote ACU controller they are wired to.

Contact Sensor

In this example, you can see we are choosing the ACU and Port the hardware is actually being controlled with.

  • Port — Select the port that is wired to the contact sensor.

  • Ajar Feature — If enabled, you can specify the maximum allowed time the door can be ajar before an event is generated indicating the door is ajar. If disabled, there will be no system action if the door is ajar.

  • Duration — the maximum allowed time the door can be ajar before events are generated.

  • Unit — Select whether to use seconds or minutes.

  • Forced-Open Detection — If enabled, an entry opening without first unlocking through Avigilon Alta or triggering the REX will generate an event.

Contact sensor events can trigger alerts. See How do I set up alerts? They can also be used to trigger custom integrations. See How do I use the Rules Engine?

Entry/Exit Hardware

In this example, you can see we are choosing the ACU and Port the hardware is actually being controlled with.

Entry/Exit Hardware is where you select the relay wired to the lock hardware.

  • Port — Select the relay on the remote ACU to which the lock is wired.

  • Entry Open Duration — Enter a time (between 1 second and 10 minutes) for how long the entry remains unlocked before reverting back to its default state.

  • Unit — Select whether to use seconds or minutes.

  • Invert Output — This advanced setting is typically only needed for elevator relays; if enabled, it flips the NC/NO configuration of the physical relay.

Avigilon Alta Reader

  • Port — when setting up a Video Reader entry, the reader is automatically selected.

  • Card Reading  — enable this to allow cards and fobs at this Video Reader.

  • Wave to Unlock — enable this to allow Wave to Unlock and Touch Entry.

    • Mobile Authorization Range — This range specifies how close the mobile device must be to the reader in order to register a Wave to Unlock. Set the range using the slider.

    • Wave Detection Range — This range specifies how close the hand must be to the reader to initiate the unlock attempt—this behavior may vary depending on your environment and this setting might require adjustment.

  • Auto Proximity Unlock (Elevators Only) — enable this to unlock the entry when a user with a valid mobile credential is in range of the reader. Set the range using the slider.

  • Advanced Options — toggle this to configure advanced range options:

    • Mobile Communication Range — the distance that the reader can detect a mobile phone that is in the BLE range.

    • Mobile Beacon Range — the distance that the beacon can detect a mobile phone and “wakes up” the Avigilon Alta Open app.

Request to Exit

Wiegand Device

The Video Reader can connect to third-party Wiegand readers or legacy panels.

  • Port — if connecting to a third-party device, select the Video Reader’s Wiegand port.

  • Mode — select the Mode to set which direction the card credential data is sent:

    • Use Input to receive data from devices such as a Wiegand reader.

    • Use Output (Gateway) to send credential data to a third-party control panel. Refer to the installation guide for more information.

Avigilon Alta Cameras

This section shows the camera associated with the Video Reader.

Add Control

  • If an entry has more than one of any controls (Avigilon Alta Readers, Entry/Exit Hardware, Contact Sensor, Request to Exit, or Wiegand Device) installed, you can select which additional control(s) you would like to associate with the entry.

  • Once you add a control, it will appear in the relevant section on this page.
