What are Entry States?

An Entry State defines whether an Entry is locked and what Trigger Methods you can use to unlock it. Avigilon Alta provides the following default Entry States that you can view under Sites > Entry States:

  • Unlocked – no credential is required for access.

  • No Entry – no entry allowed, regardless of the credential type.

  • Lockdown - Override Only – no entry allowed, even with an otherwise valid credential, except for override unlock requests.

  • Convenience – allows all valid credentials and trigger methods.

  • Onsite Only – allows all valid onsite credentials and trigger methods (no remote unlocks).

  • Standard – allows most mobile access and cards, and excludes remote mobile 1FA and third-party Wiegand methods.

  • Strict Security – allows only interactive 2FA onsite mobile access and encrypted smart cards; excludes all remote, 1FA, and non-encrypted methods.

  • Standard Security MFA - PIN -- Standard MFA - Allows most mobile access, cards, and PINs supported by Avigilon readers, and excludes remote mobile 1FA and third-party Wiegand methods for MFA with PIN required as the second factor.

  • Strict Security MFA - PIN – Strict MFA - Allows only interactive 2FA onsite mobile access, PINs, and encrypted smartcards excluding all remote, 1FA, and non-encrypted methods for MFA with PIN required as the second factor.

The Avigilon Alta Open mobile app uses status tags (Unlocked and No Entry) to display the status of an entry. To view the status of an entry, tap the name of the entry to view its entry details.

An entry without a status tag indicates the entry is locked or the entry state is unknown.

Trigger Methods refer to the ways that an Entry can be unlocked. A Trigger Method is a combination of credential type (mobile, cloud key, or card) whether the request is 1FA or 2FA, and the connection method (BLE, WiFi, or Cloud).

You can create Custom Entry States by going to Sites > Entry States and clicking Create Entry State. Then select all of the Trigger Methods you wish to allow.

Warning: Zones with Custom Entry States cannot be shared between Orgs. The Custom Entry States are tied to orgs and are non-sharable.

 

An Entry must have a Default Entry State that you set when creating the Entry under Entry Behavior. For example, you can set the default state to Convenience if you want the Entry to remain locked but allow all Trigger Methods.

An Entry can have a different Scheduled State that you can set using Entry Schedules. For example, you may want the Front Door Entry unlocked during normal business hours.
