How to import and update users with a CSV file

In addition to creating and editing individual users, you can also import and update users with a CSV file. This is useful if you want to add new users and you don't use an Identity Provider integration or if you want to assign credentials (mobile, card, Cloud Key) to more than one user at a time. You can also use bulk upload to update existing users.

If you're adding new users for the first time and you'd like to use an Identity Provider, see:

To add and update users with a CSV file:

  1. Go to https://control.openpath.com/login and log in. To access the European Alta Access, please go to https://control.eu.openpath.com/login.

  2. Go to Users > Import Users (or from the Users > Users page, click the blue Import Users button).

  3. Click Download Sample CSV and fill out all required fields in the format shown.

    • Note: If you are updating users, you can click Export Data on the User Management page to download a CSV of all users, then modify that file to import.

  4. On the Import Users page, read through the Valid Fields to view examples of acceptable values.

  5. Save the file as a CSV file (Excel file extensions will not work). Example: openpath-bulk-import-users.csv.

  6. On the Import Users page, click Select CSV and locate the file.

  7. Select the Namespace:

    1. Select Local if you're adding new users or updating existing ones and you don't use an IDP.

      • Note: If using the Local namespace, choose whether you want to skip existing users or update them using the How To Handle Existing Users dropdown.

    2. Select Google G Suite, Okta, Microsoft Azure AD, or OneLogin if you want to update existing users you previously synced with Avigilon Alta (new users will not be added).

  8. Click Upload File.

  9. The Upload Status field will log all users added, updated, and skipped. This step may take a few minutes. When finished, you'll see an "IMPORT COMPLETE" message along with any errors that may have occurred.Â
