How to provision ACUs with a laptop

Provisioning the ACU means registering it in Avigilon Alta Access and getting it up and running with the latest firmware. You will need to re-provision but first, you will need to reset the ACU.

Note: If you’re provisioning ACUs for a customer account, the customer org will need to be created by Avigilon Alta first.

Alternatively, to use the Open Admin app to provision ACUs (recommended), see How to provision ACUs with the Alta Access app?

Requirements

  1. Network Compliance:

  2. Internet Connection:

    • Connect the ACU to the Internet via Ethernet.

  3. Laptop Configuration:

    • Use a laptop on the same network as the Smart Hub. If using a VLAN, ensure the computer is on the same VLAN as the ACU.

    • For laptops running Windows or Linux, download iTunes, as the provisioning process requires the Bonjour software included with iTunes. Alternatively, you can download iTunes and use an archive utility to extract and install only the Bonjour MSI.

  4. Provisioning Process:

    • Provision one ACU at a time. Wait until the ACU's status shows "Activated" in Alta Access before provisioning the next ACU.

Provisioning an ACU with a Laptop

  1. Access Alta Access:

  2. Navigate to ACUs:

    • Go to Devices > ACUs.

    • Locate your ACU in the list.

  3. Create a New ACU (if not listed):

    • Click the plus (+) sign in the top right corner to create a new ACU.

    • Enter a name for the ACU.

    • Select the appropriate controller type from the dropdown and add any necessary expansion boards.

    • Click Save.

  4. Register the ACU:

    • Press the ADMIN button on the ACU.

    • In Alta Access, click the Register button (lightning icon) next to your ACU's name.

    • Click Yes to proceed.

    • A new window will open; click Provision.

  5. Troubleshoot "This Site Cannot be Reached" Error:

    • Open a command prompt and run the following commands to ping the ACU:

      • Windows: ping oppi.local

      • Mac or Linux: ping -c4 oppi.local

    • If nothing returns, check your network requirements. Refer to "What are the Network Requirements for Avigilon Controllers?" for guidance.

    • You should see the ACU's IP address (either in IPv4 or IPv6 format). Copy this address and return to the error page.

    • In the URL, delete everything before :8080.

      • For an IPv4 address, paste it before :8080 (e.g., 192.0.2.0:8080).

      • For an IPv6 address, remove the last two digits and the percentage sign, place square brackets around the address, and paste it before :8080 (Correct format: [a123::b456:5a18:eb8f:7fd6]:8080; Incorrect format: a123::b456:5a18:eb8f:7fd6%29:8080).
