FOR INTEGRATORS

  • Does the Keypad Reader have a video?

    • No, the Avigilon Keypad Reader has a reader and a pin pad but no video.

  • Will I need a special license to activate my Keypad Reader?

    • No, you just need a regular entry license to add it to your account.

  • What are the dimensions of the Keypad Reader?

    • Standard Keypad Reader

      • No backplate, on gang box: 11 x 12 x 1.2 cm (4.3 x 4.7 x 0.5 in)

      • With back plate, on wall: 11 x 12 x 12.6 cm (4.3 x 4.7 x 1 in)

    • Mullion Keypad Reader

      • 4.4 x 18.4 x 2.4 cm (1.7 x 7.2 x 0.9 in)

  • What are the minimum and maximum operating temperature requirements for the Keypad Reader?

    • Temperature should not exceed -12°F to 140°F (-30°C to 60°C)

  • What wire should we use for installation?

    • The wire types below are compatible and listed in the order of preference which impacts distance:

      • Shielded CAT6A (recommended, additional two pairs can be used for sensors)

      • Shielded CAT6

      • Shielded RS485 w/22-24AWG (lower gauge, thicker wire is better)

      • Shielded CAT5

      • Unshielded CAT6

      • Unshielded CAT5

      • Shielded 22/6

      • Unshielded 22/6

    • Use one twisted pair for GND and VIN and one twisted pair for +B and -A.

    • The recommended maximum cable length is 300 ft (91 m) with CAT6 or 500 ft (152 m) if two pairs are used for GND and VIN (power).

  • Can I hook up a Wiegand device to the Keypad Reader?

    • Yes, you can. Follow the steps in this guide for wiring a third-party Wiegand device to your Keypad Reader.

FOR ADMINS

  • Can I use the PIN I’m using on our current Wiegand device on the Keypad Reader?

    • You can, but it has to be programmed as a new credential. Here is a guide on creating a PIN credential in the Alta Access system.

  • I want additional security, is multi-factor authentication available on the Keypad Reader?

    • Yes, it is. Here is a guide with additional information regarding the Keypad Reader MFA.

  • Do I have to enable Multi-Factor Authentication with the Keypad Reader?

    • No, you do not. It is available if you need it, but it is not required.

FOR END-USERS

  • I am waving at the reader, but it’s not working; what’s happening?

    • It is possible that your account admin has enabled multi-factor authentication on this reader. Try entering your PIN and tapping the padlock icon on the Avigilon Alta Open app to unlock. If that doesn’t work, contact your Avigilon Alta admin for additional information and assistance.

  • I am entering my PIN but it’s not working; what’s happening?

    • This could be caused by several reasons ranging from inactive credentials, incorrect PIN, invalid trigger method, etc. Reach out to your Avigilon Alta account admin for additional information and assistance.
