Video Reader Pro and Video Intercom Reader Pro FAQs

The Video Reader Pro and Video Intercom Reader Pro are multi-technology readers combined with built-in high-resolution cameras. The Video Intercom Reader Pro also supports two-way audio for intercom calls.

Note: Avigilon firmware upgraded before October 2nd, 2023 will only sync time with DHCP time (if it provides NTP), but not with both DHCP and Cloud. This might cause some issues if your DHCP has an invalid NTP configured.

With the new Avigilon firmware update, we sync time with NTP servers from both DHCP and our Cloud NTP servers. If your device is still not able to sync time, it will happen because our cloud NTP servers AND the DHCP’s NTP are being blocked.

If you have updated before October 2nd you will have another update ready to be installed.

Low: 1Mb

Medium: 2Mb

We recommend more for the Video Intercom Reader Pro because Live streaming and Video Calls require more bandwidth since they can be used simultaneously.

Can I send the video to a third-party VMS?

Yes, Avigilon Video Readers are designed to be ONVIF Profile S and T compliant to support working with third-party video management systems. The Video Reader Pro/Video Intercom Reader Pro must first be provisioned to an active Avigilon Alta account before ONVIF can be enabled for this type of application. It is not recommended that changes be made to camera or video stream settings as this will affect compatibility with the Avigilon Alta cloud.

Is the Video Reader Pro/Video Intercom Reader Pro weatherproof?

The Video Reader Pro and Video Intercom Reader Pro are rated IP65 and designed for indoor/outdoor use. The RJ45 jack comes with a weatherproof coupling for additional durability.

How do I mount the Video Reader Pro/Video Intercom Reader Pro?

Both devices come with a mullion bracket for mounting on narrow surfaces, and a standard bracket for mounting on single gang boxes and can also be installed in a metal enclosure.

Does the Video Reader Pro/Video Intercom Reader Pro need a Smart Hub or controller?

Yes, while the Video Reader Pro and Video Intercom Reader Pro have some ACU functionality, a controller is required to power the locking hardware. However, unlike Avigilon Smart Readers, you do not need an Avigilon controller when connecting to a legacy panel for Mobile Gateway – simply connect the Wiegand wires directly to the legacy panel.

Does the Video Intercom Reader Pro support Mobile Gateway?

Yes, both devices have a Wiegand I/O that you can configure to output data to a legacy panel.

Does the Video Intercom Reader Pro support SIP?

Yes, the Intercom supports SIP as an option for connecting with legacy VoIP systems. SIP functionality overrides any configuration of Routing Profiles and will simply call a pre-programmed VoIP device on the local network. There are two modes available for SIP. First is “SIP Only” which has the Intercom call button only initiates a call to the programmed VoIP phone on the network. The second is “SIP Failover” which will take over from the programmed Routing Profiles and Voice Assistant in a scenario where the Intercoms' connection to the cloud has been lost. Both SIP modes support DTMF meaning the call recipient can dial a pre-programmed number in order to unlock the Entry tied to that Intercom.
