CAP messaging

New action type for Rules Engine & Alarm Management

What is a CAP message?
The Common Alerting Protocol (CAP) provides an open, non-proprietary digital message format for all alerts and notifications. Services like Rave Alert can ingest CAP messages and trigger predefined actions, such as a mass notification broadcast.

Example use case:

Using Avigilon Alta Access to send a CAP message

Configuration

  1. An admin with a mass notification application (such as Rave Alert) configures a "CAP Listener" (also known as a CAP Receiver or CAP Message Consumer) to receive CAP messages.

  2. The admin sets up a mass notification template to send multi-channel notifications to employees at the Dallas campus in the event of a lockdown.

  3. The admin configures an Alta Access Rule or Alarm to send a CAP message to their mass notification application in case of a lockdown at the Dallas campus.

Event

  1. An Avigilon Alta lockdown is triggered at the Dallas Campus.

  2. A CAP message is automatically sent to the customer's mass notification application, including an Alert Code that matches their mass notification template for this event.

  3. The desired mass notification is sent out to the employees of the Dallas campus.

4. Optionally, select Conditions and Schedules.

5. Configure your Actions:

  • Action Type: CAP Message

  • Authorization Method: For this example, I've selected Basic.

  • Use the URL, Username, Password, and Alert Code from the mass notification application you configured.

Note: Authentication methods are based on dependent on the mass notification application.
