If you're an Android user, you may have issues with Wave to Unlock/Touch not working because an operating system or device setting prevents Openpath from running in the background. Please check both your operating system and device model settings listed below.
Note: Although these instructions will disable battery optimizations in Android for the Openpath app, Openpath has specifically included our own battery optimization features within our app to minimize battery usage.

In addition to enabling location for the Openpath app, ensure that you also have location on for your device. See Why does the Openpath app need to know my location?
To turn location on for your phone:
Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Security & location > Location.
If you don't see "Security & location," follow the steps for older Android versions.
Set Use location to On.
Turn on emergency location
In order for Wave/Touch to work reliably, you may need to turn on emergency location. See Why does the Openpath app need to know my location?
To turn emergency location on for your phone:
Open your phone's Settings app.
Tap Security & location
If you don't see "Security & location," follow the steps for older Android versions.
Tap Location > Advanced > Google Emergency Location Service.
Set Emergency Location Service to On.
Android Operating Systems
For devices running Android version 6.0.1 and newer, check that your battery optimization is not preventing Openpath from running in the background.
Android version 6.0.1+
From the app drawer, tap Settings.
Select Battery.
Tap the Overflow menu icon and choose Battery Optimization.
Tap the downward caret and choose All apps.
Tap Openpath, then tap Don't optimize.
Android version 7+
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Select Apps
Find and tap Openpath
Select Battery, then tap Battery Optimization
From here, select Apps not optimized option and change it to All apps
Find Openpath in this list and set to Don't optimize
Android version 9
For devices running Android version 9, make sure the Adaptive Battery feature is not preventing Openpath from running in the background:
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Select Battery
Choose Adaptive Battery
Tap Restricted apps, and make sure Openpath is not listed

Step 1: Ensure that Openpath is set to auto-start
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Power Management
Select Auto-start Manager
Find Openpath and ensure it's enabled
Step 2: List Openpath as a protected app
From the app drawer, tap Mobile Manager
Tap Boost
Tap Enable Super Boost, then select Protected app list
Verify that Openpath is on the list
Asus Zenfone 2
Make sure that Openpath is allowed to begin on startup from your Auto-start manager:
From the app drawer, tap Apps
Tap Auto-start manager
Toggle Openpath to Allow

From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Permissions
Tap Manage Auto Launch. If you have enabled other apps to auto-launch, you'll see You've enabled [x] apps to auto launch.

Step 2: List Openpath as a protected app
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Select Battery, then tap Power saving management
Select App Protection
Toggle Openpath to enable
Note: If you have enabled Lock Screen Cleanup and Ultra Long Standby during Sleep, you must disable them to allow Openpath to run in the background.
Lenovo
Enable the auto-start setting for the Openpath app:
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Power Manager
Select Background app management
Toggle Openpath to Allow auto-start
OnePlus (Android 7.0 and earlier)
For system versions earlier than Android 8.0 Oreo, ensure that Openpath is set to auto-launch:
From the app drawer, tap Settings

Step 1: Check that app storage is set to clear normally (this setting is not available on Android 10, proceed to step 2)

Step 2: Exclude Openpath from battery optimization
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Battery, then Battery Optimization

Adjust your battery optimization to allow Openpath to run in the background:

On some older OnePlus devices, the top level App Autolaunch setting prevents apps from working in the background. Disable this top level permission and make sure Openpath is allowed to launch automatically.
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Apps
Tap the gear icon in the top right
Tap App auto-launch
Disable App auto-lauch near the top of the screen
Ensure Openpath is set to auto-lauch

Step 1: List Openpath as a protected app
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Advanced Settings
Tap Battery Manager, then Protected Apps
Toggle Openpath to enable protection
Step 2: Ignore battery optimization for Openpath
Tap on Settings
Select Battery, then tap on Energy Saver
Find Openpath and ensure that Freeze when in Background, Abnormal Apps Optimization and Doze are all disabled
Step 3: Add Openpath to start up manager
Open the Security app
Select Privacy Permissions, then Start up manager
Find Openpath and ensure this setting is enabled
Pixel 3
Step 1: Disable Battery Saver mode, which can prevent Openpath from running in the background
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Select Battery, then Battery Saver
Toggle Turn on automatically to off
Note: If you'd prefer to leave this setting on, we recommend lowering the Turn on automatically percentage, keeping in mind that when your phone drops to that percentage, the Openpath app will stop running in the background.
Step 2: Turn off battery optimization for Openpath
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Apps & notifications > Advanced > Special app access > Battery optimization
Make sure Openpath is set to Not Optimized
Samsung
Turn off battery optimization for Openpath:
From the app drawer, tap Settings
Tap Device management
Select Battery
Tap Unmonitored apps
Add Openpath to this list
Samsung (Android 9.0 and later)
Turn off battery optimization for Openpath:
From the app drawer, tap Settings

Scroll down to Openpath and make sure the toggle is off
