These instructions explain how to set up a Video Reader Pro / Video Intercom Reader Pro in the Control Center prior to provisioning.

Information: Recommended upload speeds for 1 Video Reader Pro or Video Intercom Reader Pro.

(Double for each added Video Reader, Video Intercom reader)

Quality:

Low: 1Mb

Medium: 2Mb

High: 8Mb

We recommend more for the Video Intercom Reader Pro because Live streaming and Video Calls require more bandwidth since they can be used simultaneously.

Create the Video Reader/Video Intercom Reader

To create a Video Reader Pro/Video Intercom Reader Pro in the Control Center:

  1. Go to https://control.openpath.com/login and log in. To access the European Control Center, please go to https://control.eu.openpath.com/login.

  2. Go to Devices > Video readers or Video intercom readers.

  3. To add a new device, click the plus(+) sign on the top right of the page.

  4. Enter a name for the device (we recommend adding an identifier to the name e.g “Lobby Video Reader”).

  5. Under Cloud Video Storage, select a Plan Length.

  6. Click Save.

  7. The read-only Details section will populate with info after provisioning the device.

  8. Under Settings, the Tamper Sensor is disabled by default. The Tamper Sensor is a basic 3-axis accelerometer. When the Tamper Sensor is enabled, the device will record Tamper Detected events when the device is touched or moved. You may need to adjust the Tamper Sensor Sensitivity to lower or higher depending on your needs or even depending on how much vibration is making it to the sensor. Disabling the Tamper Sensor setting will disable those events.

Note: A higher sensitivity may produce false tamper events, for example, when someone triggers a Touch to Unlock or a lot of vibration making it to the Video Reader.

After creating the device in the Control Center, your next steps should be:

  • Create a zone (if you don’t have one already).

  • Create an entry, by selecting the Video reader/Video intercom reader from the Controller dropdown.

Note: This is where you can configure the device Wiegand port as input or output (like for Mobile Gateway).

After provisioning, return to the Control Center to finish configuring video settings or to enable ONVIF.

Configure Video Settings

To edit video settings:

  1. Go to Devices > Video readers or Video intercom readers, then click on the device to edit.

  2. Click the Video tab to adjust video settings.

    1. Under Video Properties, select High, Medium, or Low Quality.

    2. Adjust Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness as needed.

    3. Wide Dynamic Range (WDR) is disabled by default; enabling it to adjust for backlighting and other extreme lighting conditions.

    4. Night Mode is set to Auto by default, but you can also set it to Always on or Always off.

    5. Anti-Overexposure is enabled by default; when enabled this helps reduce IR glare on persons and objects approaching the Video Reader.

    6. Under Detection Settings, enable or disable Motion Detection and adjust sensitivity settings.

    7. In the live video feed, create privacy masks or regions of interest, if needed.

Note: You have the option to disable the embedded timestamp or the camera name on recordings by toggling either option off. (This setting requires a Cloud Video Storage Plan).

Access the Camera UI

Enable ONVIF if you are exporting video to a third-party VMS.

To enable ONVIF:

  1. Toggle the Enable ONVIF slider to on.

  2. Click Save.

  3. Click Open Camera UI.

Note: For best results, use Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.

4. Login using the default username and randomly generated password, then go to Configuration > Security > User accounts to change the password.

Note: The Control Center will always display the default password, even if you change the password in the Camera UI. To reset the password back to the default, disable ONVIF, wait 10 seconds, then enable it again.

Change the cloud video storage plan

You can change your cloud video storage plan length, however, plans are not retroactive. For example, if you are currently on a 30-day plan and you switch to a 180-day plan, you’ll still only have access to the past 30 days of clips (with 180 days of storage moving forward).

To change cloud video storage plan length:

  1. Go to https://control.openpath.com/login and log in. To access the European Control Center, please go to https://control.eu.openpath.com/login.

  2. Go to Devices > Video readers or Video intercom readers, then click on the device to edit.

  3. Under Cloud Video Storage, select a different Plan Length.

  4. Click Save.
