These instructions explain how to set setting up a Video Reader Pro / Video Intercom Reader Pro in the Control Center prior to before provisioning.

Information: Recommended upload speeds for 1 Video Reader Pro or Video Intercom Reader Pro.

We recommend more for the Video Intercom Reader Pro because Live streaming and Video Calls require more bandwidth since they can be used simultaneously.

Creating a Video Reader/Video Intercom Reader

To create a Video Reader Pro or Video Intercom Reader Pro in the Control CenterAlta Access, follow these steps:

  1. Log In:

  2. Navigate to Devices:

    • Go to Devices > Video Readers or Video Intercom Readers.

  3. Add a New Device:

    • Click the plus (+) sign in the top right corner of the page.

  4. Enter Device Information:

    • Name: Enter a name for the device. (It’s recommended to add an identifier, e.g., “Lobby Video Reader”).

    • Cloud Video Storage: Select a plan length.

  5. Save the Device:

    • Click Save.

  6. ProvisioningProvision the Device:

    • The read-only Details section will populate with information after provisioning the device.

  7. Configure Settings:

    • Tamper Sensor: By default, the Tamper Sensor is enabled. It uses a basic 3-axis accelerometer to detect tampering.

      • Enable Tamper Sensor: Enable this setting to record Tamper Detected events when the device is touched or moved.

      • Adjust Sensitivity: Adjust the Tamper Sensor Sensitivity as needed based on the level of vibration affecting the sensor.

      • Disable Tamper Sensor: Disabling this setting will stop Tamper Detected events.

Note: A higher sensitivity may produce false tamper events, for example, when someone triggers a Touch to Unlock or a lot of vibration making it to the Video Reader.

Next Steps After Creating the Device

After creating the device in the Control CenterAlta Access, follow these steps:

  1. Create a Zone (if needed):

    • If you don't have a zone alreadyfor the device, create one.

  2. Create an Entry:

    • Select the Video Reader/Video Intercom Reader from the Controller dropdown.

Configuring Video Settings After Provisioning

After provisioning your device, return to the Control Center Alta Access to finish configuring video settings or enable ONVIF.

Steps to Configure Video Settings

  1. Access the Device:

    • Go to Devices > Video Readers or Video Intercom Readers.

    • Click on the device you want to edit.

  2. Edit Video Settings:

    • Click the Video tab to adjust the video settings.

  3. Adjust Video Properties:

    • Quality: Select High, Medium, or Low Quality.

    • Brightness, Contrast, Saturation, and Sharpness: Adjust these settings as needed.

    • Wide Dynamic Range (WDR): Disabled by default; enable it to adjust for backlighting and extreme lighting conditions.

    • Night Mode: Set to Auto by default, but can be changed to Always on or Always off.

    • Anti-Overexposure: Enabled by default to reduce IR glare on persons and objects approaching the Video Reader.

  4. Detection Settings:

    • Enable or disable Motion Detection.

    • Adjust sensitivity settings for motion detection.

  5. Privacy Masks and Regions of Interest:

    • In the live video feed, create privacy masks or regions of interest as needed.

Note: You have the option to disable the embedded timestamp or the camera name on recordings by toggling either option off. (This setting requires a Cloud Video Storage Plan).

Accessing the Camera UI and Enabling ONVIF

If you are exporting video to a third-party VMS, you need to enable ONVIF.

  1. Enable ONVIF:

    • Toggle the Enable ONVIF slider to on.

    • Click Save.

  2. Access the Camera UI:

    • Click Open Camera UI.

    • Note: For best results, use Chrome, Firefox, or Microsoft Edge.

  3. Log In:

    • Log in using the default username and randomly generated password.

    • Go to Configuration > Security > User Accounts to change the password.

  4. Password Management:

    • Note:The Control Center Alta Access will always display the default password, even if you change it in the Camera UI. To reset the password to the default, disable ONVIF, wait 10 seconds, then enable it again.

Changing the Cloud Video Storage Plan

You can change the length of your cloud video storage plan, but please note that changes are not retroactive. For example, if you switch from a 30-day plan to a 180-day plan, you will only have access to the past 30 days of clips, with 180 days of storage moving forward.

Steps to Change Cloud Video Storage Plan Length:

  1. Log In:

  2. Access Device Settings:

    • Go to Devices > Video Readers or Video Intercom Readers.

    • Click on the device you want to edit.

  3. Change Plan Length:

    • Under Cloud Video Storage, select a different plan length.

    • Click Save.
