Device Updates

Avigilon Firmware update for the Video Reader Pro and Video Intercom Reader Pro

Starting September 19th, 2023, customers with the Avigilon Video Reader Pro or Video Intercom Reader Pro can now take advantage of the new Avigilon firmware which will significantly improve their camera image quality. This update will also give you the ability to take advantage of future capabilities.

Available updates are major releases and cannot be performed using the batch actions feature.

You can manually update the device by going to Devices > Device updates, and clicking on “Important update - Action Required” to get important information about the update and the option to start the update to meet your scheduling needs better.

If you start the update now your device will begin downloading and then apply the new firmware. Your device will be unavailable for up to 10 minutes while applying the new firmware.

If you take no action, Avigilon Alta will start automatically updating devices on November 2nd, 2023.

Attention: ONVIF configuration of the username/password should be done through the Avigilon Alta Access UI. You will use the "Update credentials" setting to input the desired user/pass for that camera.
With the new View-Only ONVIF mode, some VMS are encountering an issue with making an initial connection to the camera. A fix for this is in development and will be available via a firmware update.
In the meantime, if any issues are encountered with connecting to ONVIF, we recommend utilizing the RTSP stream for the camera. The details are shown on the Alta Access UI when you enable ONVIF/RTSP.

If you experience any issues please file a ticket with Avigilon Alta Support.

Note: If you use a DHCP server that provides NTP, ensure it's a valid NTP server as the old firmware may not have respected it (using our cloud NTP servers instead) while the new firmware will respect it, and valid NTP is necessary for the reader to work.
